This Wednesday, September 27, the Potomac’s boys varsity soccer team faced off against the St. James soccer team at the team’s home Gum Tree Field. The Panthers notched an impressive victory, 3-1, to lift its record to 5-1. The Panthers are now solidly in first place in the MAC, with 15 total points, followed by Maret, a distant second with 8.
The team set the tone by scoring almost immediately, a lead that was preserved when goalkeeper, Walker Lyall ‘24, made a dramatic save of a St. James strike. Potomac scored again at the 20-minute mark. William Bennet ‘25 weaved through St. James’ defensive line and made several great passes. In the third minute of the second half, the Panthers scored yet another goal, while St. James avoided a shutout with a late goal of its own.
