On October 25th and 26th, Potomac Theatre performed Beauty and the Beast, a musical based on the iconic 1991 Disney movie. The cast and crew’s hard work paid off, and the show was a huge success. Alongside stars Karina Satoskar ‘25 (Belle) and Tucker Robbins ‘25 (the Beast), seven other seniors were involved in the production. For senior Ginger Landers (Babette), Beauty and the Beast marked an end to her acting career.
Ginger has been a part of Potomac Theatre since her freshman year, acting in a total of seven shows. “I started off by being an ensemble member in Guys and Dolls,” she said. “That really started my love for theater, especially because I got to spend so much time with the amazing cast. I realized how Potomac Theatre has such an amazing community.” Ginger said Guys and Dolls was her “favorite show that [she’s] done because that was when [she] realized how amazing the cast was. That made [her] want to continue doing theater.”
Initially, though, Beauty and the Beast didn’t seem as fun and memorable for her. “I think it was very hard going into [Beauty and the Beast],” Ginger said. “My mentality was not the best. I wasn’t really feeling connected to my character, and that made it difficult to go into it with the best mentality and the positive vibes that I usually go into a show with. But at the end of the show, during tech week, the cast once again reminded me why I do these shows, and they made it worth it. I’m glad I stuck with it.”
Reflecting on her role in the show, Ginger said, “That role [as Babette] started off not on the strongest foot, but she quickly grew on me. I’m very happy that I played her because she was a very fun character. Because again, the cast was always very supportive, and they stood with me even when it was tough. I’m very grateful for that.”
Although she plans to tech in the winter production of Legally Blonde, Ginger said, “I don’t think I’m going to be acting very much in my future, so this is it, man. But, you know, let’s end on a strong note.”Congratulations again to the entire cast and crew and Ms. Fisher-Phillips for putting on a great show! If you enjoyed Beauty and the Beast or missed the chance to attend, we encourage you to support Potomac Theatre’s winter production of Legally Blonde on February 21st or 22nd, 2025.
