As the 2024-25 school year comes to a close, The Current would like to honor our three graduating Editors-in-Chief: Kate Choi, Charlotte Gabriel, and Jessica Raman. Their constant support, insight, and invaluable contributions to the paper over several years have been an inspiration to everyone on The Current’s staff, past and present.
For every meeting, email, and moment spent working on The Current, their enthusiasm for journalism and generosity of spirit has been evident. Our beloved school newspaper would not be where it is today without the hard work of these three editors-in-chief, and we would like to dedicate this article to them. As we–Elizabeth, Josh, and Helena–are transitioning into our new roles as Editors-in-Chief for the 2025-2026 school year, we’d like to share just how much Kate, Charlotte, and Jessica have done behind the scenes for this paper.
Kate is an effective leader; not just because of her focused and hardworking attitude, but also due to her bubbly energy that boosts the morale of writers. She has shared her infectious enthusiasm in everything that she has done at The Current, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. Every meeting was full of spirit and fun, yet never without productivity. Her goal-oriented mindset and genuine interest in each and every article made her not just a great leader, but also a wonderful collaborator and mentor. We all remember being super nervous showing up to our first meetings and Kate being so welcoming. Her presence turned nerves into excitement and strengthened the camaraderie between all the writers.
Charlotte has always been an approachable and kind leader at Current meetings. She acted as a role model for all writers with her dedication to consistent, high-quality articles in the sports and student life sections. For example, as the 2023-24 editor of the sports section, she single-handedly created and managed the recent results section on The Current’s website, updating it daily with results from every sports game. Her efforts set a new standard for coverage, and we hope to reinvigorate this feature next year on our website to continue the initiative and consistency that she brought.
Jessica’s impact comes from her reliability, wholehearted kindness, and approach of leading by example. From the moment a writer stepped into working for The Current, Jessica was able to make them feel seen and immediately at ease through her steady encouragement, thought-provoking questions, and sincere dedication to each and every article. Jessica is a multifaceted writer, having written articles spanning from student life to opinion, reflecting both her range and her experience. Her opinion pieces, which were sharp, sophisticated, and thoughtful, came to define her unique and influential voice on The Current. It’s hard to imagine The Current without her wisdom and guidance, but her influence will remain on our pages and with the people she’s mentored for years to come.
Together, Kate, Charlotte, and Jessica have made The Current into what it is today; therefore, on behalf of the staff and advisors, we would like to sincerely thank our senior editors-in-chief who have managed to carve out time from their packed schedules to have meaningful conversations, respond to countless emails, and deliver quality edits with superhuman speed. These are huge shoes to fill, but we are so glad to have had the opportunity to learn from you three. Kate, Charlotte, and Jessica, we love and appreciate you so much! Best of luck in college!
