In an effort to keep students from collapsing under the pressure of studying for finals and preparing for the last stretch of the school year, Potomac’s SGA recently launched Stress Less Week, a 5-day stretch of both comfort and craziness. The goal? Helping students to relax and recharge before a hectic span of events.
The event kicked off with a fashion show where brave students modeled the theme of each day. It was something straight out of Vogue–if Vogue were full of beachwear and cowboy hats. Monday was Pajama Day, where teachers implored students to not fall asleep in class. Tuesday took Potomac to the beach (although it was 40 degrees out, and the nearest ocean was over 200 miles away). On Wednesday, it was green to celebrate Earth Day (and NOT green for the Eagles, let’s get that clear). For Thursday, the underclassmen were “country club,” representing golfers, and the upperclassmen were “country,” representing cowboys. And for the grand finale on Friday, the student body president, Kasim Khapra, ran out in full Potomac spirit to signify Potomac Pride Day.
But the outfits weren’t all. Each day also came with an activity. On Monday, students got to enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt, consisting of several normal eggs and 10 special golden eggs hidden throughout the Upper School. Students competed for points, prizes, and the title of champion–bragging rights included. On Tuesday, there were therapy dogs during lunch in the Crossroads. Wednesday consisted of Earth Day activities in advisory groups, as well as a volleyball tournament on the Quad. Thursday held arts and crafts activities in the Crossroads, where students could de-stress with bracelet-making and popsicle sticks. Finally, Friday was Potomac’s beloved Grills and Games, consisting of delicious food and our very own Panthers going up against schools that included Flint Hill on the turf and Gumtree fields. From the egg hunt to themed dress days, and the no-homework weekend to Grills and Games, SGA and SAC certainly delivered again this year.
