On November 6th, 2024, the Boys Varsity Soccer team ended their nearly three-month-long campaign in defeat, gracefully bowing out in the semi-finals of the State Cup in a hard fought 1-0 loss to Cape Henry Collegiate. Just three weeks earlier Potomac had drawn one apiece with them, so Cape Henry more or less avenged the earlier tie.
With the conclusion of the season following their closely contested loss versus Cape Henry, the team should have nothing to be ashamed of. Scoring an impressive 44 goals over the course of their nineteen game season, 12th-grader Patrick Ritter led the way in terms of goals, with 11 scored – and 8 assisted. To put this into perspective, for every 94 minutes played, Ritter registered a goal and/or an assist–a genuinely impressive stat.
To further add to the team’s success, the players were clearly unselfish in their on-field decision-making, with an equally impressive 29 (registered) assists to accompany their incredible goal tally.
With the departure of many experienced seniors following the conclusion of the season, first year Head Coach Travis Beauchamp will be without the likes of Ritter and Marshall Lloyd, both of which stood out with their outstanding individual skill and flair, next year, but will look towards Emre Kirgiz ‘28 and Griffin Westland ‘28. Both freshmen will come into the team next year with varsity experience and will look to cement their spot in a team that will have lost veteran leadership from the graduating class
Beauchamp can also look towards several up and coming Junior Varsity players, including Pearce Kellett ‘28, Alexander Kim ‘28, and Sawyer Pearce ‘28 to fill in gaps in the future.
Regardless of the state semifinal loss that ended their season, the team should hold their heads high. Not only did they clinch the MAC title for the third year in a row, but they also integrated several freshmen into the team to set the soccer program up for future success.
Congratulations to outgoing seniors Patrick Ritter, Marshall Lloyd, Clay Chapman, Colin Cordell, JP Sosnitsky, Luke Brittin, Garrett Hicks, Will Bennett, Ben Muhlendorf, Adam Bhatti, and Wyatt Pence for a fantastic season!
