This Wednesday, October 4, Potomac’s girls varsity soccer team faced off against Georgetown Day School at Gum Tree Field. Potomac notched an impressive 5-1 victory against Georgetown Day, beating them by a score of 4-1, putting the girls’ season record at 2-1 in the ISL and 4-1-3 overall. The Panthers are now in sixth place in the ISL’s upper division, with a strong chance to move up.
Early in the game, the Panthers wove through GDS’s defense and scored two goals in quick succession. 13 minutes into the first half, the Panthers fired off another shot and sent the ball whizzing into the net. As a whole, the team showed great agility and footwork, constantly passing the ball and keeping it out of GDS’s prying grasp. A final goal for Potomac was scored when Megan Rowe ‘24 made an impressive shot past a GDS defender into the goal. The Panthers’ outstanding first half ended 4-0. GDS avoided a shutout when an attacker snuck through Potomac’s defense and scored shortly into the second half.
