Potomac’s Pep Band rallies the spectators at the Tip Off tourament.

At the Tip Off Tournament, on Dec. 3, on top of superb three pointers from Kayla Rolph and BJ McNeil, the Pep Band made its athletic debut. The student instrumentalists hyped up the fan section with hit songs like “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Industry Baby.”

The Panther Pep Band was founded this year to heighten school spirit at Upper School basketball games and other athletic activities. Under the direction of Mr. Henry Heidtmann, who also serves as assistant director for the Concert Band, the Pep Band features a wide variety of instruments, from drums to saxophone to flute, and all are welcome!

Freshman Christian Lam was inspired to sign up for Pep Band after enjoying his time in the Band Program since sixth grade. “I really wanted to be a part of a group that would encourage and inspire students through playing music,” he said. “This new opportunity gives people that don’t play sports, but have a lot of talent in band, the chance to showcase their abilities even during a major athletic event.”

The enthusiastic crowd was especially hyped during a rendition of “All I Do is Win” by DJ Khaled. Celebrating the victories at the end of the night was even more exciting with the Pep Band playing in the background.
